The Importance of Fathers

Every since I can remember, I've been a daddy's girl. We've always had an amazing relationship. I honor and cherish him because without him, I would not be the woman I am today.

I understand how vital it is to have a father (or father figure), which is why I am so thankful to have my husband Eric. He is an awesome father to our boys. Our oldest son Roosevelt is definitely a daddy's boy; I call him Eric's Shadow. He wants to do everything his father does. Our other son Lewis, at just 3 months old, is all smiles and giggles when he spends quality time with daddy.

A child's relationship with his or her father is imperative and can contribute significantly to their cognitive development, academic achievement, language and social development, self esteem, and many other important aspects of one's development and growth.

The percentage of single mom's has risen greatly over the past years and I commend single mothers because it takes a strong individual to raise children without a partner. However for those that have children and their father is not present in their lives, there are two things I would recommend.

1.) Establishing your child's relationship with Christ

When you know who you are in Christ, you don't become a statistic, you become an overcomer, the one that defies the odds, and the one that sets the example for others to follow. Everything your children will ever need can be found in Christ Jesus. This is the greatest and most important relationship of them all.

2.) A father figure or mentor

Find a father figure or mentor for your child. Pastor, minister, uncle, coach, someone that will set a great example and influence your child for the better. I believe that prayer and guidance from Christ should be incorporated in every decision we make, with that being said, before entrusting your child to anyone, ensure that it is God ordained. As well as doing a thorough investigation on the person because just like not having a father can affect and impact your child, having the wrong father figure can negatively impact them as well.

Fathers are needed, my prayer is that men will take their rightful place first in Christ and then in their families (Children's) lives. I've provided a link below for those that are searching for father figures or mentors for their children.
