The Mom Fix | Faux Fur Vest +Sneakers
I remember being pregnant with my first son and having so
many questions and needing so many resolutions to certain health issues without
having to give medicine to fix it. I love being able to help moms and sharing
information that has been beneficial to me, which is why I want to incorporate
the MOM FIX on my blog. Each week I will post a blog that features 2 of my mom
hacks! Disclaimer: I am not a health professional these are things that I’ve
done that have worked for my child. Please always consult with your
pediatrician before trying any new methods.
One thing that my first son suffered with was acid reflux.
He was placed on two medications to help; however, they did not work for him. He
would have horrible reflux episodes; he would turn purple, milk would be coming
out of his nose and mouth, and he would panic because he felt like he couldn’t
breathe. Graphic details, I know, but it was scary for me and it wasn't until I researched that other moms children were experiencing the same symptoms that my mind was some what at ease. Today I am sharing 2 mom hacks to help get rid of acid reflux.
1.) Cold Milk
I already know what you’re thinking,
but it worked for my son. I noticed any time he received warm or room
temperature milk he would have an episode. I did some research and ran across a
mom that suggested giving cold milk, it was something that worked for her
child. So, I gave it a try and Roosevelt never had another reflux episode. This
works for both breastfed and formula babies! I pumped exclusively with
Roosevelt for 8 months before transitioning him to formula, he was able to take
both of them cold with no problems.
2.)
Sitting up for 15-30 minutes after eating
Most of the time after we burp our
babies we think it’s okay to lay them down, and this works for many babies,
however babies that have acid reflux need a little more time. After feeding
Roosevelt I would have him sit up with me for 15-30 minutes just to make sure
everything digested well and did not come back up. That may seem like a long
time, but it was perfect bonding time, during this time I would often read to
him (this will definitely be on my next mom fix blog, it’s so important!). This
is definitely just as important as the cold milk.
I hope that this has helped with any moms that have
struggled or are currently struggling with their child having acid reflux. And
for all my expecting moms, if you run into this problem, you already know a
solution! Again always consult with your pediatrician before making any
decisions regarding your child.
